KUCHING: It was sweet revenge for newcomers Mafia Hukum when they edged Brother’s I 3-2 in the final of the KGS Team Matchplay Championship at Matang/Santubong courses at Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) recently.

They avenged their 2-3 defeat to Brother’s I in the earlier stage of the competition and walked away with the Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai KGS Team Golf Challenge Trophy.

The toast of the team was state and KGS junior golfer Abdul Rahim Abg Abdul Rahman who beat Mohd Yusri Jusmail one-up in the first single and the decider after both teams were tied at 2-2.

Both players squared at Santubong Hole 16 where Abdul Rahim took the lead at Santubong Hole 17 when he neatly chipped for birdie and led one up.

At Santubong Hole 18, his second shot landed on the green for a six-foot putt and Mohd Yusri’s second shot almost struck an eagle. Abdul Rahim then putted the hole for another birdie.

Earlier, in the foursome, Bong Tee Yen and Vincent Bong delivered Brother’s I’s first point when they beat Bohri Ojit and Amin Adenan one-up.

But Mafia Hukum levelled the score in the first four-balls when Roshan Mustapha and Nafri Mohamed edged Lau Chai Seng and Edward Chin 4 and 3.

Mafia Hukum followed up with another close win when Mohd Arafat and Sukiman Aini edged Lucas Lai-Abraham Tan 3 and 2 for a 2-1 lead.

Kho Hua Sin pulled back another point for Brother’s I when he beat Abang Abd Rahman 2 and 1 in the second single to tie the score at 2-2.

Mafia Hukum kicked off their campaign with a 4-1 drubbing of Green Poison on Mar 12, lost 2-3 to Brother’s I and in the loser’s pool they clawed their way back into contention by beating Korea 4-1, HGA 3-2, defending champions Grasscutter 4-1, Kaban 11 3-2 and beat Gambler 4-1. Gambler finished third in the competition after they lost 1-4 to Mafia Hukum.

For Brother’s I, the journey to the final was no smooth ride although they started off strongly with a 4-1 thumping of J and J on Mar 12.

They went on to edge Mafia Hukum 3-2, Kaban 11 and Gambler also with the same scoreline to make the final.

Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai closed the event and gave away the challenge trophy to the champions.
