Breaking News, Feature, Piala Presiden 7:47 AM Text Size : [+] | [-]By Omarali Matjais: The President's Cup Challenge Trophy was introduced in 2007 and the closed tournament was mainly closed for members of the association. It was staged at Damai Golf and Country Club for 3 years until 2009.
President's Cup is a yearly event of 18 holes of stroke play with Nett event taking precedence over gross. The participants were open to all members throughout the country.
2007 Recap
It was held at DGCC on 24 November 2007. Prize presentation was held the following evening in conjunction with the commemoration of PGABS 10th Anniversary at KGS Banquest Hall.
Bankers Mohamad Hassan and Abdul Wahab Johari returning a nett score of 67. Mohamad Hassan, with a handicap of 20 emerged champion on-count-back while Abdul Wahab, (handicap 24) had to settle for second place. Taking advantage of the excellent weather and commendable green, new golfer Mohamad Zaidell finished third place winning on-countback on a 3-under 69.
Under the gross category, a six handicapper, Awang Sani Seruji stood tall after returning a gross score of 75 to emerge top. Second placing went to Johari Aman with a 77 and third, Mohamad Fikri who carded a 78.
2008 Recap
Haji Khairudin Ibrahim of Sibu fired 5-under 67 to emerged champion and won the coveted President's Cup 2008. In the gross category, Mohamad Yusri carded 79 strokes to emerged the top whilst YB Fadillah Yusof won the VIP category with even 72 nett score.
The rest of the Nett Category result were Daniel Yeo Abdullah (second, 69 OCB), Lokman Jaafar (Third, 69), Haji Jalil Abdul Rahman (71 OCB), Osman Saadiah (71), Zuraini Abd Rahman (72 OCB), Alias Bujang (72 OCB), Abdul Wahab Dollah (72), Omarali Matjais(73 OCB) and Abdul Wahab Majid (73).
Under Gross Category, 13-year old Abg Abdul Rahim carded 80 gross scores to claim the second spot while Sukri Morshidi, Johari Aman and Mohamad Lokman Mustafa were in the 3rd, 4th and fifth placing respectively.
