Tiger Woods coming to town?

KUALA LUMPUR: The world’s top golfer, Tiger Woods is expected to make his second appearance in Malaysia, in the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia, that will be held at the Mines Resort and Golf Club, near here from Oct 28 to 31.
Woods was here 10 years ago in 1999 for the 45th World Cup of Golf which was being held at the same venue, where he emerged as champion of the international tournament.
For this year’s CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia, Woods is among the star-studded golfers invited for the first Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tour Sanctioned tournament in Southeast Asia.
Group managing director of the Country Heights Group of Companies, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew said he was confident of bringing back the world number one golfer to Malaysia and added that “we will make the efforts to make it does happen.”
“I believe everybody wants to see Tiger Woods. I will personally invite him (Tiger Woods),” he told reporters after signing ceremony the official drink sponsor, Chang Beverage at The Mines Resorts and Golf Club, here yesterday.
Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Gan Ping Sieu, who witnessed the function, believed the tournament would generate excitement among Asian golf enthusiasts.
The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia will feature an international field of 40 players competing for a US$6 million (RM20.4 million) prize purse, with the winner taking home US$1 million (RM3.4 million).
All the players will have to play on the challenging par 71 with no cut for 72 holes. The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia will also feature the top 25 available players from the PGA Tour’s final FedExCup standing.
The top 10 players from the current Asian Tour Order of Merit and five players under sponsor exemptions will join them to complete one of the strongest playing fields in Asia’s golf tournament circuit. — Bernama/
