120 to tee off in S’wak Masters

KUCHING: About 120 golfers from the SGA affiliated Golf clubs throughout the state will take part in the Sarawak Masters’ Dato Sri Dr James Masing Challenge Trophy in conjunction with the 6th Anniversary of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) to be held at the Kelab Golf Sarawak, near here, on Nov 6 to 7.
Organised by the Sarawak Golf Association, the event, formerly known as the PRS Classic, was held for the past two years at the Sarawak Club Golf Resort, Kota Samarahan under the patronage and sponsorship of Land Development Minister, Dato Sri Dr. James Masing.
Masing told a press conference that the event, which will be one of the major events in the SGA golfing calendar, will be organised annually.
“This year the event which will be under a new name - the Sarawak Masters Dato Sri Dr James Massing Challenge Trophy will be held in conjunction with the 6th Anniversary of PRS which falls on Oct 21 and will be one of the major events in the SGA calendar,” said Masing.
He said lucrative gross and nett prizes worth RM35,000 will be offered, including four Tag Huer watches and Rolex Explorer 11 for the hole-in-one prizes.
Participants include golfers from the affiliated golf clubs of Kelab Golf Miri, Kelab Golf Bintulu, Kelab Golf Sibu, Kelab Golf Penjara, Sarawak Golf Club Resort, Damai Golf & Country Club and the host club, KGS will be taking part in the tournament.
Apart from the Open category, there will also be an Invited Guests Category played on Sunday Nov 7 at Matang/Santubong Nine.
All participants and invited guests will be invited to the prize giving lunch which will be held at 1pm on Nov 7 at the KGS Chinese Restaurant.
