Thrity-one handicapper, Jimson Jium Anak Sungong and Mohd Fikri Mohamad (hcp 4) stamped their mark for 2009 under the nett and gross categories respectively during the New Year Special 2009 golf tournament at DGCC. Fifty-four hardcore golfers, mostly PGABS members participated for the tournament despite soggy and absolute rough fairway conditions.
Jimson Jium carded 9 under par leaving rest of his flight-mates puzzled and speechless during the game (no UPs all the way). For a record, Jimson Jium never score anything below 100.
First runner up under the nett category went to Ismawi Mohamad (hcap 33), our strong piping man, with his new PRADO with a Johor registration plate number. He had shown the way how golf should be played. He led his flightmates right from the second hole till finished.
Under Gross Category, 2nd runner up went to ten handicapper, Adnan Atan while the 3rd and 4th runner up went to international golfer from Korea , Kim Ook Hyun and Zhang Ying Bin. Unchecked slow play by the Korean, made some easiness among the flights behind. Roshan @ Goho, Redzuan Hasbi and Redzuan RHB) cited thier poor performance due to losing tempo by the slow game. The triple ‘R’ golfers claimed that they managed to finish 2 sticks of cigarettes at every hole, one each at the tee box and the other at the approaching shot.
On the brighter side, Zamiruddin Haji Ahmad (hcap 17), sank his tee shot at hole 17 par 3 after OBeing his first tee. Sorry, it was not counted as hole-in-one but a hole-in-three. He lost the superball to Haji Zack as the latter sank a birdie.
Under the gross category, the winner went to Mohd Fikri Mohamad with a score of 79 while the 1st and 2nd runner up went to Awang Zailani Awang Bujang (hcap 7) OCB and Roslan Mohamad Salleh (hcap 7) with a score of 81. Currently, Awang Zailani is under serious training as he is going to play in the Maybank Malaysian Open 2009 under amateur status. Good luck and all the best for him.
The woodenspoon for nett and gross category went to Roslan Ahmad Darus (hcap14) and Basil Ong Hock Jee (hcap 36) who had carded a score of 98 nett and 119 gross respectively. Unfortunately, no prizes were given for this category.
