Addressing the ball

Text Size : [+] | [-]

While playing particularly fast greens, Zuraini's ball came to rest on a steeply sloped area of a green. He then marked the ball and awaited his turn to putt. After replacing the ball and taking his stance, he decided not to ground his putter, just as the ball began to roll without him touching it. Had he addressed the ball and will he had to play the ball where it stopped?

Zainudin Answers: "Addressing the ball" is defined in theRules of Golf as having taken a stance and grounding the club, except that in a hazard, the stance is all that is needed. Zuraini hasn't addressed the ball and he will not incur a penalty. However, the ball must be played as it lies.
