RULE 15-3 In Action

Today @ 7 December 2008, Nasir and Musa exchanged accusation after the later hit the wrong ball at index 1 hole 4 Matang. They both directed their second shots into a bunker. Speeded his buggy with full throttle, Musa arrived first and stepped into the bunker and proceeded to hit his shot and sunk for a birdie. Nasir who was still in the buggy with Omar realized it was his own that Musa was hitting. Realising that it wasn't easy to score a birdie and still 'kurap', Musa affirmed that there was no penalty if he made a stroke at a wrong ball in a hazard, which include bunker.I called Zainudin who was still at Kpg Serikin and he confirmed that Musa was perfectly correct if he was playing in 2007. However, as from 1st January 2008 a player is now allowed to lift their ball in a bunker or water hazard for identification purposes. There is a consequential change to Rule 15-3, which introduces a penalty for playing the wrong ball in these circumstances. Therefore Musa is penalised two strokes for playing a wrong ball and must then play his own ball out of the bunker.
Nasir must replace his ball at the place where it was played from in the bunker and is entitled to restore his original lie as nearly as possible.
Zainudin advised all PGABS golfers to be on the look out for the changes in golf rules. According to him, not knowing the rules is not amounting to 'sorry, I am not aware"
