Member of Parliament Petra Jaya (P.194)
Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Sarawak Bumiputera Amateur Golf Association (PGABS) President.

Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof became the Member of Parliament in 2004 for the Petra Jaya constituency in Sarawak. Following his re-election with one of the highest majority in the country in 2008, Fadillah was appointed as Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Those brief facts are not all that the lawyer by training is.

Born on 17th of April 1962, the 9th child of Haji Yusof Merais' 14 children is relatively new in party politics but politics runs deep in his veins.

His father Haji Yusof is a known Colonial day activist who was even jailed by the British for his strong views and struggle for an independent Sarawak. Without an iota of doubt, Fadillah is clearly continuing his father's struggle through a more systematic and acceptable political vehicle.

He is by all means striving for the overall betterment of Sarawak and her people, more so now with his capacity as a Federal Deputy Minister. Fadillah's relationship with the Federal Government and senior Government official, even as an ordinary MP prior to his latest appointment, is more than merely cordial, partially due to his down-to-earth nature.

Haji Fadillah pursued his early education in Sarawak before pursuin his studies in Universiti Malaya where he obtained a Law Degree in 1986. Upon graduation, Hj Fadillah established his own legal practice and three years later joined Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Sarawak (PBB) as an ordinary member.

(PBB is the lynchpin of Sarawak Barisan Nasional, a party which is akin to Umno in Semenanjung Malaysia in terms of political influence).

A natural leader, or more specifically as a person who knows how to handle people and situations while being able to shoulder responsibilities, Hj Fadillah was soon appointed PBB Tupong Division Youth Information Chief ( Tupong ) and subsequently as PBB Youth Secretary General.

His leadership, management, public relation and oratory skills soon elevated him in the eyes of friend and foes alike, and Hj.Fadillah is seen as among the 'sparkling' second echelon leaders in Sarawak.

Early this year (2008) he was unanimously appointed as PBB Youth Chief, a position which placed greater responsibility and the gargantuan tasks of marching the youths of Sarawak towards Vision2020 and beyond.

With his most recent appointment as a Deputy Minister, Haji Fadillah may seem to be 'flying high' in the eyes of many but the humble politician remains firm on the ground. His passion to serve the people and constant 'brainstorming' to improve the delivery system is clearly not overlooked by PBB and to be more specific his constituents in Petra Jaya.

He delivered promises made during the 2004 election campaign and as he kept his promise, the people of Petra Jaya maintained their trust their elected representative.

Education has been his unwavering focus since day one and the people agree with him, unanimously indeed.

"The people look to me to deliver a better life for them and future generations and that is why even though my political responsibilities have expanded I shall not forget that without the trust of my people I'm nothing." Haji Fadillah who was also Barisan Nasional Backbencher's Club (BNBBC) member from 2004 to 2008 said.

One of the driving forces behind Haji Fadillah's engagement in politics is his desire to ensure that the fruits of development could be shared and enjoyed by all, particularly the less fortunate and the poor.

He deplores the fact that there are still pockets of poverty in our country and that there are too many young people disillusioned by the lack of opportunities.

"Low expectation and limited aspirations are compounded by the lack of good employment opportunities and this is the root cause of dysfunctional behaviour amongst the young"; Fadillah who has also represented Malaysian Parliamentarians at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) said.

His commitment to the young and the less fortunate is not just based on soft compassion but recognizes the need to develop innovative approaches to policy, strategic planning while improving the delivery mechanisms.

Even with the pressures of a variety of state, national and international level responsibilities he is essentially a family man.

"It is from my wife and family that I draw much of my strength", he says, listing his interests as family life, books (reading) and sports.
He plays badminton and is an avid golfer. (Fadillah is the Sarawak Bumiputera Amateur Golf Association President)
