KGS TEAM MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP 2008

Conditions of Competition

1. Rules
The Rules of R & A Rules Limited and the Local Rules of Kelab Golf Sarawak govern play.

2. The Committee
The KGS Team Match Play Championship 2008 is under the management of the KGS Tournament Committee. This Committee reserves the right to make any alterations to the terms and conditions of this event as it deems fit. It shall also adjudicate any claims, protests or disputes and its decision shall be final.

3. Eligibility
The KGS Team Match Play Championship 2008 is restricted to KGS male players only.

4. Teams and Contests
Competitions between teams will be known as Contests.

A team shall consist of:


  • Foursome (maximum combined handicap of 32) = 2 players



  • Four-ball (maximum combined handicap of 36) = 4 players



  • 2 Singles (handicap 11 and below) = 2 players

    Total = 8 players

    Note: In a Foursome, the partners shall play alternately from the teeing grounds and alternately during the play of each hole.

    5. Reserves
    A team may have 2 Reserves players. A Reserve who has not played in any previous matches may be substituted.

    6. Handicap
    Valid USGA handicap of 24 and below during the month of registration. All players shall, for the duration of the competition, use the handicap of the month of registration of their team regardless of the date of his match.

    Penalty: Disqualification

    7. Handicap Stroke Allowance
    Singles - Full strokes
    Four-ball - 2/3 stroke of the difference
    Foursome - Full stroke difference of 1/2 the combined handicap rounded down*

    * Half the combined handicap which leaves a decimal of 0.5 when halved shall be rounded down.

    ** Team Captain’s are responsible for the stroke allowance given/received before the start of any match. Any disputes on the stroke allowance will not be entertained once a match has started.

    8. Teeing Ground
    All players shall play from the BLUE tees.

    9. Format
    The Double Knock-Out System will be used. The Final Contest will be played ONCE only to decide the Champion Team.

    Should a match be all square after the completion of a stipulated round a hole-by-hole play-off shall start immediately from where it began until one side wins a hole. The handicap strokes shall be allowed as in the stipulated round.

    No contest shall be decided by halved matches.

    Penalty: Disqualification of players who refuse to complete their match

    10. Entrance Fee

    RM 1,000 per team.

    Each team is required to register a minimum of 8 players. 2 Reserve players may be added after registration but before the commencement of the first match of any contest.

    The entrance fee will be debited from the team players’ KGS accounts upon receipt of entry forms duly completed and signed.

    Signing of the entry form will constitute consent for KGS to debit the members’ accounts.

    11. Prizes
    The Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. Wong Soon Kai’s Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the Champion Team for the year.

    Attractive prizes will be awarded to the Champion, Runner-Up, and Second Runner-Up placed teams.

    12. Closing Date for Entries
    Completed entry forms shall be submitted to KGS Office on or before Wednesday, 27th February 2008 by 5:00 PM.

    Entry forms are obtainable from the KGS Activities Office.

    13. Competition Dates and Times
    The KGS Team Match Play Championship 2008 will commence from Sunday, 2nd March 2008.

    Contests shall commence from 11:30 AM on Saturdays and from 8:00 AM on Sundays (unless otherwise stated).

    All fixed Contests must be completed within the stipulated dates and times. For this competition the official time shall be the Starter Time.

    Unfinished match or matches on Saturday shall continue on the following day at 6:45 AM. Starting times for Sunday’s contest will be adjusted accordingly. Team Captains will be duly informed.

    Penalty: Disqualification of the team.

    14. Draw
    The Tournament Committee will perform the official draw for the competition on Thursday, 28th February 2008 at 6:30 PM. All Team Captains are invited to witness the draw.

    For the purpose of performing draw, the Champion team of the previous year shall be seeded No.1 and the Runner-Up shall be seeded No.2.

    The draw will be posted on the KGS Golf notice board from Friday, 29th February 2008 that same morning.

    15. Team line-up
    Competitions between players will be known as Matches and are based on the following:

    Foursome: Maximum combined handicap of 32

    Four-ball: First match: Lower combined handicap of the 2 pairs.
    Second match: Higher combined handicap of the 2 pairs.
    Maximum combined handicap of 36

    * Singles: First match: Lower handicap of the 2 Singles players.
    Second match: Higher handicap of the 2 Singles players.
    Handicap 11 and below

    * In the Single matches, the Handicap Index will be used to determine the lower handicap of the two if both play off the same handicap.

    Penalty: Disqualification of both players in Singles match or both pairs in Four-ball match.

    16. Responsibility of Team Captains
    Team Captains are to submit their team line-up for each Contest at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the commencement of their team’s match. The official time shall be the one as displayed in the Activities Office.

    No changes shall be allowed after submission of the line-up.

    Penalty: Disqualification of the team.

    Team Captains or team representatives are to be present at all briefings and meetings as and when required by the Tournament Committee.

    Team Captains are solely responsible for their Teams’ compliance with the Conditions of Competition.

    Team Captains may agree to proceed with a Contest prior to the above-stated dates except that no future Contest may be played prior to the present Contest. If so agreed, the teams are deemed to have complied with the Conditions of the Competition laid down herein.

    Penalty: Disqualification of the team.

    Team Captains may, in the event that his team has only registered 2 players of handicap 11 & below and one or both of them are unable to play in the next Contest, substitute another or two players of the lowest handicap in the team at the submission of the team line-up. The substitute or substitutes shall play off the handicap of 11 for the remainder of the tournament.

    Penalty: Disqualification of the players involved.

    Only Team Captains may give advice to their team members in accordance with the Note to Rule 8-1 of the Rules of Golf.

    A playing Team Captain must not give advice to his team members except his playing partner during his stipulated round.

    Team Captains of each team shall sign and return the completed official result sheet of the Contest within the same day on completion of the final match.

    17. Responsibility of Individual Players
    A player shall not play for more than one team. The confirmation of a player’s participation in any team is determined upon receipt of the team’s entry duly signed by him.

    Any player withdrawing from his team cannot be replaced unless he has not played in any of the matches that his team has played thus far. Player withdrawing from any team is not allowed to re-join his original team or any other team in the competition.

    18. Postponement and Abandonment of Contests
    In the event of inclement weather and/or any other reasons, the Tournament Chairman or such person/s nominated by him will decide on whether to postpone or abandon any or all the Contests and all affected Team Captains will be duly informed.

    19. Claims and Disputes
    Any claim or dispute if it is to be considered by the Committee shall be lodged before the return of the result sheet. No later claim or dispute shall be considered except as prescribed in Rule 34-1 of the Rules of Golf.

    20. Transportation
    In conformity with the usage of buggies during all club competitions, players are to use buggies throughout the competition. Each side is allowed to use one buggy and one caddie.

    Penalty: Loss of hole at which the breach is discovered; maximum deduction per round is two (2) holes.
