Interviewing Timbalan Presiden, Datuk Mazelan Bugo aboard Malaysian Airlines enroute to KL 1st January 2008.
What were the low points?
There were many members who still did not really understand the position of PGABS. Like our Secretary said, PGABS is the poorest club in the world and we operated based on sponsor’s contributions. We depended on members’ subscription which hardly come even RM1000 per year. So we are not able to make invitation in any tournament unless the sponsorship amount is more than double the entrance fees.
Some members were comparing the current and the previous AJKs. Please comments.
Not wise to compare as PGABS belongs to both current and previous AJKs, and in fact every members. For instance, Haji Said and Arif Tambi still contributed by giving valuable idea. Current AJK like Haji Abdul Jalil, Zainudin A and Haji Zabidi were from the previous team. So let move forward for the betterment of our club.
What is the PGABS plan for 2008?
YB President during 10th Anniversary Dinner announced the formation of Program Belia and I am heading the project. Secretary Haji Omar has a lot in store which I am not able to release it yet. But one thing for sure, CHANGES is inevitable and we have to keep abreast with time. We are going to dissolve our Committee earlier than expected and new AJK will continue our plan. Increasing membership is among our plan.
Talking about dissolving AJK. Are you planning to continue offering your service?
Let me talk on behalf of the committee. This is not a business entity but NGO. As a responsible people, we will serve as long as still needed by members. But we still believe new blood should be injected into the system. There are many of our members having good leadership quality.
What is your wish for the members in 2008?
I wish everybody make small contribution to PGABS, not only in term of monthly subscription but good ideas, energy, supporting our projects and above all be sporting and understand the club and our position.
What is your philosophy about running a golf association?
I prefer a golf cart to a caddy because the cart cannot count, criticize or laugh.
