KUCHING: Mohd Lokman Mustaffa carded a gross score of 76 to win Sarawak Golf Club’s (KGS) first tournament of the year, the Chap Goh Mei Special Golf.
He beat Mohd Yusri Jusmail into second place on count back (OCB) after both players registered the same score of 76 in group A contest.
Coming in third place a stroke further back was state junior golfer Abdul Rahim Abg Abdul Rahman.
The nett title went to another youngster Immanuel David who returned a score of 69, beating Kim Gi Duk and Sukiman Aini into second and third place respectively after an OCB.
In fourth place with a 70 was Abg Ibrahim Abang Salleh, also beating Park Kisuk (OCB) while William Manggoi came in sixth with a 71.
In group B, Laura Goh Hui Ee won the gross event with a score of 89, beating Chan Chang Tung (OCB) and Mohd Sani Abdul Razak was third with a 90.
The nett title went to Augustine Chuo with his score of 66.
Three strokes behind the champion in second place was Mohli Amri who edged Lee Dae Gun into third (OCB).
Fourth to sixth positions were also decided by OCB, won by Yokota Osamu, Sahdi Semaion and Zafirah Osman in that order.
The trio recorded a similar score of 71 in the one-day tournament.
More than 200 golfers took part in the event and there was a Chinese New Year open house and lion dance performance during the prize presentation lunch.
Also at the prize presentation were Prof Dr Mohd Syafiq Abdullah, the vice president of KGS Management Committee, club secretary Shahary Alias and other management committee members.
This is among the first tournaments scheduled by KGS for the whole year.
The next important tournament is a month-long KGS Match play Championships commencing on March 10, with about 16 teams participating.
Other tournaments in the calendar are Sarawak Closed and Heritage Golf in May, Gawai Dayak Golf in June, Sarawak Classic in July, Captain’s Alumni, Hari Raya Golf and Pusaka Golf in September, Sarawak Masters, Sarawak Inter-Community Golf, Sarawak Senior Closed and Professional Golf of Malaysia in October, Club Championship, Sarawak Junior Open, International Junior Golf Championship and SGA Cup in November and Captain’s Trophy in December.
Apart from hosting the above events, KGS also provides the venue for private tournaments.
